sweet tumbler
About seventy percent of the time my impulse for imagery is to go overboard … whether it's patterning, the amount of objects or layering flat compositions so they go back and back and back but you know, flat. The other thirty percent I like to pull back … I love negative space, minimal information and the start quality it can produce.
For this tumbler I felt the need to do less and instead of something stark, to me it feels quiet and serene. Part of it is are the soft, curving shapes balancing out the more angular house but it's also how the 'aqua' underlaze fires to a warm grey and how it interacts with the sun and the warm, off white clay body. There's part of me that wants to keep it for myself … but I am also curious if I can repeat the same feel.
This tumbler is wheel thrown, stoneware clay that has images hand carved into underglaze.
Measurement: 3" x 3" x 3" (perfect cuuuuuube!)
